Company's Coming! {free download}

Don't get mad at me for saying this but.....

Thanksgiving is in less than a month! You know what that means right?

Christmas is in two months! You know what that means right?

Company in your house!

This is good news and bad news!

Good news...time with your family!

Bad news...time to clean

But it really isn't that bad! I have found ways to get my house ready for company without it becoming a major event. Ok that's a lie. It will always be a major event, but it's a good one.

Here are 4 simple ways we get ready for company.

1.  I get my kids involved. I make a list of all that needs to be done and they choose what they will do. If no one chooses, then I assign them. There is always a reward involved. Even I like to be rewarded when we tackle the task of prepping for company.

2.  I divide the house up into zones. Sometimes that's how we assign jobs, by the zone. Often we will work on the house for several days, one zone at a time.

3. Gather all our tools. I make sure we have easy access to what we need to get that zone cleaned up. If several people are cleaning, I make sure they each have a spray bottle of cleaner and a cloth. Here is the cleaner I use to clean my house with.

4.  I try to make it fun. Try is a really big word. Sometimes I just want it done. Other times I turn on our favorite music, set a timer, give a challenge or whatever I can think of to get it done with a smile on all of our faces.

A few years ago I learned of the importance of reducing the harsh chemicals in our house. I'm pretty sure I've blogged about this before. But it was shocking to me what is in the common cleaners I was using and the harmful effects it was having on our health. I have a son with asthma and realized the cleaners and candles I was using was only making him more sick!

Here is an article that explains what these ingredients are and why we need to avoid them.

Instead of a bucket of cleaners under my sink that could be really dangerous if my little kids got a hold of them, I only have one bottle of cleaner. It works great. Saves me money. It's very versatile.

Because She Believed

I'm journaling my way through the scriptures leading up to Jesus birth this month. I started doing it last year but never finished and this year I got off to a late start. So goes my life.

It has been very refreshing and deepened my understanding of all that God did to prepare his people for His son. I love when the Lord gives me a refreshed and new view of characters in the Bible that I have heard about my whole life. The Lord brings them alive in new ways every time! I am ready to keep it going with a new book of the Bible after Christmas.

And then there was Mary.

The Bible doesn't give us a lot of details about Mary. We have to make a lot of assumptions about her based on the culture of the time and the events that surrounded her. The character of God also gives us some very definite hints about her character because he chose her to play such an important role; being the mother of Jesus.

But this morning as I read my scripture passage I read it as a mother, expecting my first child.

I couldn't help but let my mind wonder into the mind of Mary on that night when Jesus was born.

Wait! I can't go into labor here! I want my mother with me! I need the midwives! I want to be at home! We are in an animal barn in another town with complete strangers! The Son of God cannot be born in an animal barn! It smells horrible in here! It is dirty! God, this isn't how it is supposed to be! My baby needs to be born in a quiet, clean place where I can protect him and keep him warm, not in a barn!

I don't really know if this is what Mary was thinking, but I bet a barn was not where she expected to give birth. I'm sure she had a plan for Jesus birth. I'm sure she had idea's of where the birth would happen. Her expectations were possibly all being tossed out with the straw in that barn as her contractions grew harder as the animals looked on. And to make things worse, as far as we know, Joseph had to help deliver the baby. That was not appropriate according to culture.

Mary was a real person with real feelings and even though she had great faith, I have a feeling she also had a lot of spunk about her. Serious spunk! Her whole life she had to deal with people who didn't understand who Jesus really was.

She could have recalled scriptures read to her by her father.

"For I know the plans that I have for you, ' declares the Lord,' plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

"Many plans are in a man's heart, but the counsel of the Lord will stand." Proverbs 19:21

How many times have I let my expectations of something or someone cause me to miss out on truly experiencing God's blessings. Many times!

How many times have I let my own plans get in the way?  Many times!

How many times have I become so caught up in the chaos around me that I can't see what God is trying to do? Too many times to count.

And because she believed...

But Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. Luke 2:19

I don't think anything happened like she had thought. Actually, her life had been turned upside down for the past 10 months so I'm sure his birth didn't surprise her much at all.

Maybe that is why she was able to cherish it all in her heart. She knew who was orchestrating this world changing event. She knew God would do what he said he would do. That is why God chose her to be the mother of His only begotten Son!

Lord, give me the faith of Mary. A faith that is so solid that any plan I have is simply laid aside for your will that is always so much more exciting than anything I could ever dream.

Time to Stop, Rest and be Thankful.

It's Thanksgiving Eve.

Chocolate Meringue Pies are in the fridge along with the Orange Cranberry sauce. Pecan pies are on the buffet where more desserts will be added tomorrow.

Turkey is about to go into the roaster and my list of side dishes is posted on the fridge so that I don't forget any.

Thanksgiving Day is our family's favorite holiday. We love it because there are no expectations for gifts. Just come and eat with us and let's have a great day together as we remember how faithful the Lord has been this year to us.

So, you want the honest truth? This has been a really hard year! I am not going to dress this up. It's been really hard. And it is often difficult to remember the good things that happened.

It's been a hard year for my business.  It's been a hard year for my husband who worked 2 jobs most of the year. It's been a hard year for my Father in law as he battled cancer. It's been a hard year for my father as his health is not good and doctors can't seem to find any relief for him. It's been a hard year for my daughter who struggled with anxiety and depression. It's been a hard year for 2 of my sons with their jobs. It's just been a really hard year!

In History, Sam, Gracie and I have been studying Early American History. Last month we were reading about the Pilgrims who spent 3 months on the Mayflower in pursuit of a life of freedom from England.  Once they landed they were not ready for what was about to happen. On the ship, only one person died on the trip. That was remarkable. But when they began trying to make a new life for themselves, they realized just how difficult things would be.

I'm sure you know the story. Thanks to the help of Samoset & Squanto, the Pilgrims learned how to farm, and hunt. The Pilgrims were so thankful for the help of these Native Americans and for the new life they had made for themselves, they devoted a day away from work to spend time together giving thanks to God for his provision and protection. But wait... It was a hard year!  This is why they set aside one day to rest and be thankful!

What happens when we are thankful?

We are more hopeful of the future. I know my God is faithful. I know that the trials we experienced this year were not in vain. I know that whatever he allows next year may also be hard, but He will still be there just like he was this year.

We are energized and empowered. There is just something about choosing to say, "I'm thankful for this". It is choosing an attitude of joy. That gives us strength.

We are healthier.  Grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and they report feeling healthier than other people, according to a 2012 study published in Personality and Individual Differences.  We also sleep better and are less stressed.

Of course the Pilgrims didn't have scientific studies showing them why they needed to stop for a day and rest. But, we know the benefits of it.

I'm so glad we have a day like Thanksgiving that forces us to stop and spend time with our family and friends. Time to focus on what the Lord has done for us and how we are blessed.

So, yes...this past year has been hard. But a quick scroll through my Facebook pictures reminded me of the many blessings we experienced as well.

Sarah came home from the Philippines early. That was an awesome blessing!

Sam went to Children's camp for the first time and loved every minute of it!

We kept Brody, my grandson, everyday for several months until his parents found another daycare for him. I love that!

My kids all have good jobs right now!

My husband is only having to work one job & even though it is extremely hard on his body, the Lord is using it to provide for us.

My Father in law found out this week that he is cancer free!

So yes, it has been a hard year, but God is good and we are thankful for the many ways he has blessed us.

Ok, so I'm off to get my Turkey in the roaster!

I pray you have a very Happy Thanksgiving with your family!!

Be Mindful on Mother's Day

This Sunday is Mother's Day.  For many woman across the globe, it is a great day.

But for some it is a dreaded day.

The Lord has placed 2 women in my life who have inspired me is so many ways.  Their lives are lived not just in service to others but in a way that encourages others to seek truth in Jesus. What these 2 women have in common is they have not been able to have children.  According to society, they are not moms.  But I do not agree. They may not have given birth to children or raised children in their home, but both of them have had a huge positive influence on many children, touching their lives in a way than most mothers never will.

One friend I have already blogged about in this post.  But, I decided to introduce you to my other friend.  Of course I won't use her name. I just want to tell you a little about her and how she has inspired me.

Like I said, my friend has no children of her own and desperately wants them. She has experienced the painful loss of miscarriage. Her heart aches & yearns for children. So, you can understand why Mother's Day is a very difficult day for her.  She yearns for the day when she can be celebrated by her children.  She looks forward to the day when in church on Mother's Day they ask all mother's to stand and she can join the other mothers in the room.

While she waits for the Lord to give them children he has her very busy at a very difficult job.  She counsels young girls considering abortion.  While her heart is aching for a baby, she sits across the table from a young girl wanting to get rid of her baby.

Can you imagine the pain my friend experiences as she counsels with these young, very confused girls?

I can't imagine.

But yet she does it. It is important enough to her to push through her own emotions and do what God has called her to do.  She has amazing stories and testimonies by young women whose lives were changed. What she is doing is possibly changing whole generations.  The Lord is using her to save lives!

In addition to that, she also speaks in schools to students about the right kind of sex education.  She teaches abstinance...an unheard of concept today. She spends time with young people, pouring herself into them encouraging them, teaching them truth and equipping them to make wise decisions. For many of these students she is the closest thing to a mother any of them will ever experience.

The Lord is using her is such a huge way in the lives of so many students and young girls.  I'm so thankful for her.  She is such a blessing to me and has inspired me in so many ways to reach beyond myself and look for new ways to bless others.

I hope & pray that one day my friend will know the joy of being a mother. Until then, I love how she continues to do what the Lord has called her to do.

I encourage on this Mother's Day you to be mindful of those dear friends we all have whose dream of being a mom hasn't or will never come true. Maybe send them a special note or give them a quick phone call, letting them know how much you are blessed by their life.

Overwhelmed by His Grace

It's Good Friday.

Our day really hasn't been much different that most Friday's.  But yet it is.
My Bible reading this morning took me back to the events that lead up to Jesus arrest, crucifixion and death. If I'm not careful I can read that like I read most books.  Just looking at the words, not taking it in.

I recieved a message from a friend this week who spoke about her son who is autistic and really has a hard time this time of year.  He gets very emotional when he reads the scriptures about Jesus death.  He cries and is very upset. He struggles with separating the past from the present and even though his parents assure him that Jesus is not dead, his emotions are over whelming as he reads what Jesus went through.

I have to side with Jeremy on this one.  I can't read those words without becoming emotional.  And I pray that never changes.

Are you humbled by his life and death?  It was all done for you.

If you can read the account of Jesus death without your emotions being stirred, I challenge you to re-read it & use your imagination.  Put your self in that crowd.  Smell the smells.  Hear the cursing and yelling.  Watch the beating done by the Roman soldiers who literally didn't know who they were beating.

16 The soldiers took Jesus into the courtyard of the governor’s headquarters (called the Praetorium) and called out the entire regiment. 17 They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head. 18 Then they saluted him and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” 19 And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship. 20 When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified. Mark 15:16-20

As horrible as it is to read what was done to Jesus, what a blessing to know the story didn't end there.

Sunday we celebrate the rest of the story.  We rejoice that sin was conquered and God's plan for salvation was accomplished.

Let this resinate in your soul.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of God's love for you and the wondrous grace that covers you.
Let it overwhelm you like it does Jeremy. His love for Jesus should insire us all to respond in the same way.

By the way, April is Autism Awareness Month & I am so thankful for the special people the Lord has placed in our lives that bless us and inspire us to love the Lord.

Why I need Christmas

Hot cocoa steam is rising from my Christmas mug.  Christmas music is playing on Pandora. Sequins, ribbons, glue and other nerve racking craft items clutter the table I am sitting at.  The Christmas season is here.  But, once again, I struggle with it. Why?

Is it the craziness of the season, frantic shoppers who will run you over if you don't get out of there way?
No, that doesn't bother me...okay, maybe a little.

Maybe it is suddenly having to rearrange a normal schedule to make room for Christmas programs, parties and dinners.
Nope, that isn't it either. Those are fun.

Is it the sudden focus on Jesus and his birth?
Yep, I think that is it.

Don't get me wrong.  I love the Christmas season; decorations, Christmas lights, giving gifts, keeping traditions and making new ones.

But I don't need all of that in order to celebrate Jesus birth.  I celebrate his birth every time I open his Word & read of his salvation, grace and redeeming love.
I'm reminded that I would be dead if he were not alive.
Every time I am brought to my knees because once again, my sin is forgiven...I celebrate Jesus birth.

But, I still need Christmas.  Even though, during the year I am still aware of the amazing gift of Jesus, Christmas forces me to stop momentarily...pause...ponder...Selah.  The traditions we have with our family are all things that should force our usual crazy schedule to shift & give it more purpose.

God wants us to be still and know that HE is God (Psalm 46:10).  If we do it right, Christmas can help us do that.  But, when I let the crazy worldly way of celebrating Christmas poison our traditions there was no joy, no being still, no enjoyment at all in the holiday.

When God's people were in the desert after being freed from Egypt, God set in order Feasts for the people to celebrate. They each marked a time in their history when God had redeemed, restored & replenished.  These were times during the year they were to stop their normal work and focus on God and what he had done.  The kids and I studied this not too long ago and I was reminded that holiday's aren't wrong.  It is how we celebrate them that is often wrong.   The feasts God set in place had purpose.  We have lost sight of that purpose.

I know December isn't really when Jesus was born.  That's not what this post is about.

This post is about the need to be still and be thankful for Jesus.  This can happen all year round, but I love that even though my family celebrates Jesus all year, during December we are able to stop momentarily, draw away from the craziness of life and celebrate together.  There is purpose in that.  As a mom whose children are quickly growing up and leaving, it is important that I still make this "stillness" possible for my family.

The title of this post was originally, "Why I Don't Need Christmas" because I don't need a holiday to celebrate Jesus.  But as I began to type I realized why I do need it.

I encourage you to look for ways your family can be still together and celebrate Jesus.

Free Stuff for Valentines Day

This is Valentines Week!

That means for the kids we get to do some fun stuff for school.  At least I hope we do.   Now we are dealing with the flu.  We’ll see who is well enough to play this week.

In the past we have tried to a special dinner as a family for Valentines Day, but since my kids are scattered out & the ones who are here are sick that won’t happen this year.  So we will find other ways to celebrate the love of God this week.  The world uses Valentines Day to recognize our love for each other and that is great, but I tried to make Valentines Day about more than that.  I tried to make it about the amazing love God has for us.  Until you really understand this love, it won’t matter much to you or to your kids.

Thankful

I hope you had a wonderful day of Thanksgiving!  Our family celebrated the day at my parents house.  It was the first time in a whole year that all of my kids had made it to my parents house at the same time.  I was so thankful that everyone’s crazy schedule’s took a break and we were able to stay for several days.

We of course, had to do our annual porch picture. My parents have this fantastic porch & we love to use it for pictures.

And of course…Charlie.  Our little wild man.  He is almost 7 months old now.  He crawls, eats real food, does not sleep all night and has the most wonderful little smile, as you can see here.

When I think of where I was spiritually this time last year I am just about brought to tears by the reality of God’s amazing mercy and grace.  My heart was dismayed, angry, hurt and very troubled.  Today, I can honestly say my heart is thankful.  Thankful for the trials of this past year.  Thankful for the time to be quiet.  Thankful for the solitude.  Thankful for the hard lessons. I am content with where the Lord has us.  Yes, I most definitely still want our family to live in our own home, but I would much rather be where God wants me. I am learning to slow down and not get ahead of God.  I am learning to be quiet.

It’s been a good year…and it’s not over yet!!!

Be Like Martin!

Many years ago, when our children were much younger we made a decision about Halloween.  We decided that we would not celebrate the day. In our own minds & heart we could not justify our family celebrating a holiday that was filled with evil and scary things.  If our family was committed to the things of God, Halloween didn’t fit into our traditions.

Now, we understood that we couldn’t ignore Halloween.  It is there every year.  We just knew that as a family we would not celebrate it.

As our kids grew they knew Halloween was there.  Their friends went trick or treating and for them, that was fine.  We never judged our friends or neighbors for celebrating Halloween.  We never told our kids that our Christian friends were not really Christians because they chose to go trick or treating.  We just made a different choice than our friends did & often it was hard to stick to, especially when the kids began wanting to go out & get candy. Even though our kids agreed with us on the Halloween aspect, they didn’t always understand what was so wrong about going out to get candy.  To them it was just a way to get free candy.  Their motive was not the same as others. But as parents, we had to stick to our convictions.

As we looked for other options, we learned about Reformation Day. How is it that I had never heard of this special day in our Christian history? We decided to put our focus on the Reformation rather than Halloween.

Luther-posting-95-theses-560x366Martin Luther is a very important part of our Protestant  Church History and I think it is really important that we teach our kids about Luther and others like him who rose above the standard of their day to proclaim the truth about the Gospel.  We live in a day where most homes have at least one Bible on their shelf if not more and when going to church is looked at as a drudgery instead of a privilege. We, as a Christian society, have become very good at being religious but not very spiritual.  This is what Luther was fighting against.

The Catholic church at his time was very religious, but it was not spiritual.  It was full of deceit, selfish ambition, superstition and false doctrine. This was the church that Luther was a part of but when the Lord enlightened him on what was really going on Luther became enraged and searched the Scriptures for himself.  The result of that search was the 95 Thesis that he nailed to the Church doors on October 31, 1517.

We use Luther as an example of how God can use us to make a difference.  God gave Luther the strength and courage to take a stand against others who were leading others away from the Truth.  Luther was reluctant, being fully aware of his depravity and inabilities.  But, his strength came from the Lord. What a great example he is for our children!

I encourage you to study the life of Luther and other reformers for yourself and then share what you have learned with your children.

Here is a blog post I wrote a few years ago with several links that may help.

Reformation Day Blog Post

At the Well has some good Reformation Day links also.

If you have teens who like rap music, I recommend this video

Have you seen the Luther movie?  We like it & watch it several times a year.  I found it on Youtube.

I encourage you to evaluate why you do what you do like Martin Luther did.

Does it bring glory to God?

Does it encourage others to follow Christ?

Be like Martin!

Happy Reformation Day!

Blessed Good Friday to you!

I wanted to share some links that I am using with my children as we remember Jesus death and his resurrection.  Right click on the links to open in a new page or tab.

Suddenly One Morning is a short story written by my pastor.  It is a wonderful narrative from a shopkeepers view of what happened in Jerusalem the day Jesus was crucified.  Very moving!  It is a book, but Christian Book.com has provided it for you for free.  Just print it out.  I encourage you to get the book though.

What is so good about about Good Friday? - blog post

Resurrection Cookies tell the story.  We love doing these & it has been a few years since we did.  We will do these on Saturday night.

Resurrection Rolls is another fun way to tell the story.  No waiting on this one though.

This is an excerpt from a sermon by S.M. Lockridge called "That's My King".  I never get tired of hearing this!  One of my favorites!

I hope that you & your family experience the power of the story of Redemption this Sunday!

Taking a Break for Holy Week

I have this over whelming desire to stay as far away from my computer as I can.

This next week is Holy Week.  I struggle every year with how to impress on their hearts the dire importance of understanding this event above all others in the Bible.  I'm not saying that the rest of the Bible isn't important, but the rest of it is based on the sacrifice of Christ.  It is seen throughout the Scriptures.

I think that may be why I want to stay off the computer.  So I can focus better on the reality of what Jesus did for me.

I hope as you enter into a new week that you will become mindful of who you are in Christ and the amazing love he has for you.
I hope that you will spend time together as a family discussing the Biblical events that led up to Jesus death.
But more than that, I hope that you will come into a deeper understanding of what his death, burial & resurrection means.  I hope that as you come into a deeper understanding you are truly humbled to the point of falling on your face in worship of your Savior!

I can't adequately point into words what all of this means to me. I am overwhelmed to the point of tears every time I try.  Maybe one day.  In the mean time, I am taking a break.

"But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.  He is not here, for he has risen, as he said."
 Matthew 28:5-6

Understanding His Birth

I originally wrote this 2 years ago and had it posted on my previous site, Living Stones 4 Moms.

I love the Christmas season.  When I was young, my mom always made Christmas an extra special time of year.  She would decorate the house from top to bottom many times with her own handmade decorations.  We would bake special desserts that were only made during Christmas and share them with friends who visited.  My sister and I always knew that Christmas was really about the birth of Jesus, but the presents and decorating were our favorite part.
When Scott & I married and I was left to begin my own traditions for my family.  We would decorate the house and find a big tree to decorate.  We would buy the kids tons of gifts and bake a lot of sweets.  It was a time of year when we did things that we normally did not do through out the year.  We told the kids that Christmas is really about celebrating the birth of Jesus.  We had a nativity set up and talked about it with the kids.  We tried to pass on to them an appreciation for the true meaning of Jesus, but I myself still didn't have a  real deep understanding of Christ birth.
One Christmas changed all of that.  A few October's ago we had found out we were pregnant and we were so excited.  This would be our ninth baby.  When my midwife came for my first check up I was feeling pretty well, which was not a normal feeling during the first trimester for me.  She tried to find the baby's heartbeat but couldn't find it.  We thought maybe it was too early so she would come back in a few weeks to try again.  As the days went on I began to feel some cramping, but I had done that in the past so once again I didn't think much about it.  A few days before my midwife was to come back I began spotting.  I had never done that before and now I was really worried.  The morning of my appointment I told Scott that I knew that Renee would not find a heartbeat.  I knew the baby was not alive.  My worst suspicions were confirmed.  There was no heartbeat.  She told me what would happen as my body would naturally begin to expel the baby.  She said it could only take a few days or it could take a few weeks.  I cried, not because I was afraid of what was about to happen, but because this baby that I already come to love so much was dead inside my body.  I would never be able to hold and nurse this baby or kiss his fat little cheeks.
The days turned into weeks as my body slowly did what it knew to do.  We came into the Christmas season and I was not in the mood for Christmas cheer.  This was about celebrating Jesus, but I was still mourning my baby's death.  I went through the motions of celebrating, but was not in it at all.  Then Christmas morning came and as I was helping my little ones open their gifts my body reached the peak of the miscarriage.  I was in horrible pain and knew what was happening.  I ran to the bathroom and cried out to God.
"Why on today would you let this happen to me?  How can I celebrate your sons' birth when my body is discarding my dead baby?"
I spent the day at my in-laws in pain, emotional and physical pain.  I was feeling very sorry for myself and really just wanted to be at home in bed rather than pretending to enjoy Christmas Day.  That evening as the pain began to lessen I asked God again why this had to happen today of all days.  It was my worst Christmas ever.  Never again would I be able to celebrate the Christmas season without remembering losing my baby on Christmas Day.  I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to me.
"Your baby was conceived to serve a purpose in my plan for you.  My son was conceived with a purpose; so he could die for you.  Your baby died so that you would understand my son's birth."
This realization pierced my soul.  I knew that it was o'k to mourn the loss of my baby, and now I had a greater understanding of my Savior's birth.  The pain I felt as my body progressed through the miscarriage was great, but the pain of my sin was even greater to my God.  I began to ask myself if I had the ability to control conception would I conceive a child knowing that he would be born to later die so that others would live; knowing that he wouldn't just die, but that his death would be traumatic and excruciating.  I know I could not do this and my God did it for me!  He knew that we needed someone to walk among us and show us his love.  He knew that we would need Jesus, but he knew that it meant that his son would have to die so that we could live.  He would do away with the Old Testament covenant and Jesus would be the new covenant.  And for all of this to take place God orchestrated a brilliant plan to send Jesus to earth in a way that we all can relate to; as a baby born from an earthly mother.
I don't know about you but the realization of what Jesus was born to do so that I, a selfish sinner, could live eternally with him in Heaven brings me to my knees in humble adoration.  I can't even begin to describe to you the emotions that overcome me.  It is hard for my flesh to understand how and why anyone would do anything so great and sacrificial for one who has hurt him so deeply.  But that is why I am not God, because I could never do that, I am too selfish.
This miscarriage gave me an even clearer picture of God's grace.  In his grace and mercy he gently led me into a deeper understanding of his son's birth which resulted in the ultimate act of love for me.  I realized that God didn't have to send his son to die, just like he didn't have to allow me to conceive that baby, but he did.  He didn't even have to let me wake up this morning, but he did.  Christian author and speaker, A.W. Tozer said,
"Whom God will use greatly, he will hurt deeply."
He loved me so much and wanted me to experience him in a deeper way and for this to happen I would need to experience a painful loss.  He knew my pain and my loss, yet his was much greater than mine, but he loved me still; enough to send his son to earth to die for me, knowing how sinful I would be.  How can I not love him with all that I have in me?  How can I not devote my life to serving him?
So, we have Christmas; a time each year to remember that a baby wasn't just born to live a perfect life, but he was born so that he could die for you and me.  I know that Christmas is a holiday that the world has commercialized in a huge way.  But for our family it is a time to stop and remember.  We can thank God for his son Jesus everyday.  We can remember everyday that Jesus came to earth to show us how to love God and each love other.  He came to die for us and even more amazingly he was raised from the dead.  I know that we don't need a special day to do this, but taking that day is special.  Now when this time of year approaches I become especially mindful of what all God has done for us through out the year.  I understand his birth in a much deeper way and it has made a tremendous affect on my relationship with Christ.
I feel very blessed that the Lord not only gave me a spiritual reason for the miscarriage but the physical reason also.  We later found out that I actually had a virus that had attacked the baby causing it to die early on. I went through treatment, cleaned up my health by eating better foods and was soon pregnant again; this time with my first girl in 10 years. We gave her the middle name of Grace as a reminder of God's abundant grace in our lives.  22 months later we welcomed another boy, our 11th little blessing (10 on earth & 1 in Heaven).  I still hear the kids talk about the "baby who died in moms tummy" and that is all they remember.  But for me I will always remember the baby that helped me to come to a deeper relationship and love for my Lord Jesus Christ.  Every Christmas I thank my God for allowing me the very short time with that little one and for the way he so greatly blessed my life.
Please don't let this Christmas come and go without going to your Lord Jesus Christ and thanking him for giving his earthly life for you.  Share this truth with your children and pray that they too would come to a deep understanding of the meaning of Jesus birth, life, death, and resurrection.
There is a book that I enjoy reading with my children every year called, One Wintry Night by, Ruth Bell Graham; the late wife to Billy Graham, world renown evangelist.  This book will bless you as you read the story of Christmas beginning with creation and going all the way to Jesus resurrection.  The last few sentences in the book sum all of this very well...
"Through his death and resurrection, the baby born in Bethlehem had become Lord of all.  This is the real meaning of Christmas, the joy and glory of it all!"
